Here is my second ogre He has been converted - heavily repositioned, the shoulder of the left arm sculpted, his hook added, fur trim round his boots sculpted on, straps for his stone gutplate sculpted on. Now, this is by no means the finished product. From the photos I can see that his skin needs tidying up badly, his trousers are shiny (needs dullcote), bandages on his sword arm are crap, and the sword needs more work. I am, however, extremely pleased with the freehand on his trousers, and the manky HE shield and barrel of wine on his base i realise that the colour scheme is a bit dodgy, but I tried to keep it tied together by making his boots red. Gutplate also looks strange, but the mountaineaters' gutplates are made of stone, so the purple things, naturally, are crystals Really, i am posting him to find out what you think so far: I would be extremely grateful if you told me which bits need improvement: I have taken into account comments from my first ogre, 116169, to make him better. I am hoping for my first average score of 8 or more! He is not a WIP, yet he ain't finished either so please, please leave a comment! And please, please bear in mind that I am only 13 years old!
Thank you, I hope you like him
Have a nice day!
~Bill

Dragonsreach 10-Apr-06 #174011 | | Rating: 8 Ok 13 going on 30 by the skills shown here. A couple of points taken up from the self criticism you've already made. I agree that the bandages do need a little bit of 'pulling together' to raise their impact. The sword I have to be critical about in that you've actually put the rusted effect on the wrong edge. Any rust would be away from the sharpe blade and towards the back of the sword. On the skin tone I have no real criticism of the colour only he/it should really have darker nipples and aureoles. I think that the face is good but perhaps it needs a little darkening around the eyesockets to make the eyes "Pop". As for the hook hand there is something about the stump which I can't quite define, perhaps it needs to be made to look sore and irritated. But my last point is the Gutplate; What a great idea. It's not quite right yet, and not too far off either. There are a couple of articles about painting gems, which will give you the idea for the Finishing touches. I think the articles are buy Zaphod and or Saxonangel.
As has been said before for 13 you are scary. |

dennis. 05-Apr-06 #173606 | | Rating: 8 I think your own criticism is sound, before i read it i thought the face could do with a shade more definition and maybe bring the teeth up a little too.Imho the sword is a little flat, it doesn't seem to have a blade or cutting edge. The freehand on the trousers is cool but the red dragon doesn't follow... when you work this one up you'll be looking at 8+ i think |
Maximo 05-Apr-06 #173583 | | Rating: 8 don't ya love it how photos show up everything? At this stage it's looking very good. In addition to the things you mentioned maybe another highlight on the skin and a little bit of finer gravel on the base. It'll be good to see this guy finished...Max |
Bobinator 04-Apr-06 #173561 | | Rating: 8 Hi Bill, you seemed to have covered all the major points yourself, the sign of a good artist is the ability to pick up on certain faults and flaws and know that they need attention without anybody having to point them out, I like the trousers very much and the broken wine barrel is also a nice touch, so overall a good job and well who knows a few more years and you'll have more trophys than me, I aint got jack good luck mate, Bob |
Albert Moreto Font 04-Apr-06 #173547 | | Rating: 8 (8,5) hey bill! its looking great! the trousers design is pretty nice, good base, good eye for detail, nice metallics on the sword... keep up, u have a future plenty of trophies |
BanJo 04-Apr-06 #173546 | | Rating: 9 Hey Bill! This is so, so great! A BIG improvement from your earlier minis! The conversion is great, and the colours, and the amazing freehand on the shield and pants! I would never have been able to pull that off! I love everything about this model, this makes me sure that you'll win that deamon you want so much. Keep it up mate!
Take care

Talonicus 04-Apr-06 #173543 | | Rating: 8 Hi Bill.
Your ogre is really gettimg there. The blending needs more work and the paint needs more definition in areas but on the whole I really like him. I am still not sure on the shield but the blade and trousers are looking good. Just a few more layers and transitions should really make him pop.
Great Work. | |
