here's Lord Castor of Kislev. I might enter him for Youngbloods this year, and he came joint third in pastor prime's two week "Best Painter in the World" competition.
Anyway, about the mini... a truly fantastic sculpt by Dave Thomas. After many hours of drilling, I swapped his piddly little sword (the only thing I disliked about the sculpt) for a Kislev Halberd (thanks Mark, thanks also for help with the colour scheme). He is my first human figure, so many new techniques here. I kept with the original GW colour scheme, but faded it by adding lots of greys, to look bleached and worn by years of hard Northern weather. I added red tones to his face and skin to make him look ruddy in the cold, and there are no golds-all the metals are silver only. I attempted some limited, subtle freehand and am quite pleased with how that came out. I kept the colour scheme as simple as possible, and the browns tonally similar: the leaves on the base (thanks Rune and Albert) have branches the same colour as the shaft of his halberd, the bow on his back, his boots and the beavers.
Yes. Beavers.  I hope you like them, they are all sculpted. Castor is the Romance language version of beaver, a nice bit of history there The base is slate, with real soil and a lot of snow, along with a manky Chaos shield (Kislev are great enemies of Chaos). The blade of the halberd is a tribute to nano of Spanish Team.

Anyways, these are WAY better pictures, and they fit the mini more than a jungle setting.. heh.
I especially like the beavers, his face, and the freehand on the cape. Nice work, Bill. |
