"Shouldn't leave your helmet off..."
I converted and painted this Apothecary for MicroArt Studio. It's on eBay now.
I wanted to create a multitude of source-light effects - there is night and the only light is provided by various Apothecary's lamps - white light, red dim light and greenish life-scanner light

pitcube 11-Feb-05 #121966 | | Rating: 9 uh, i fear you may have misunderstood me,
for which i am sorry. there is absolutely nothing
wrong with your technique, i doubt it could be done better or more convincing.
You can be rightly proud of EVERY single light
source and its respective effect, there are just
(and this is just my personal view) too many of them to focus on the light-by-night effect...
So please keep up the great stuff, i would very much like to see more of your works!
Happy painting! |

Thank you all for comments! |
pitcube 27-Nov-04 #111952 | | Rating: 9 this diorama is a real looker!
you succeeded to give it a theme and a story with with few ingredients, making a focused piece.
The light effects are a cool idea, but in this pic
the sources are not clear enough(except in the case of the shoulder light which, consequently, makes the strongest impression), mumbling the overall effect a little...
perhaps a multi-perspective pic might remedy this minor criticism. another way (but please don´t change THIS mini) may be to use just one, but more striking light source, it would enable you to even lay more contrast in it...
Anyhow, great work as usual!

Kreoli 26-Nov-04 #111895 | | Rating: 8 Its ok diorama. I like how you paint the woundet marine's armour but the light effect on the apotechary's neck and shoulder is rather unsuccesful. It more looks more like extraordinary orange fungi than light to me. |
Mathias 24-Nov-04 #111674 | | Rating: 9 This diorama is excellently done. The convincing portayal of directional lighting from the apothecary's lamp and scanner coupled with the subdued light of a night scene is a tour de force of tromp d'oy artistry. A conoisseur's piece which is a real pleasure to look at and appreciate. | |
