THis was another one of my entries for the australian + new zealand GD 06, for the fantasy single mini category. He was a finalist, but did not get a place.
The mini is just a slight conversion from one of the black guard drummers - his drumstick has been exchanged for a sword, and the drum replaced by the shield. FOr the colour scheme, I was trying to capture the atmosphere of the cold frozen wastelands of the dark elf land of naggaroth - I tried to choose very sombre tones, and little contrast between colours to reflect this cold, low-light environment where things are more muted and less lively. I think these sombre tones reflect the cruel nature of the dark elves, and enhance the evil, dark atmosphere of that race - I also tried to emphasise this point with the sharp, jagged angles on the freehand designs on the cloak, armour and shield.
I hope you like him anyway! Even though he did not get a trophy, he's still one of my favourites haha. There are bigger pics and more photo angles on my site:
